About Us

ChildFund Ireland is an independent Irish not-for-profit organisation. We work with children, families and communities in Africa, Asia and the Americas.

Our work is made possible through individual child sponsorships, as well as grants from the Irish Government and other Irish bodies. We work in partnership with children and their communities to create lasting and meaningful change by promoting children’s rights and supporting long term community development aimed at achieving self-sufficiency. Our distinctive approach focuses on working with children, regardless of race, creed or gender, throughout their journey from birth to young adulthood, as well as with families, local organisations and communities globally to create the environments children need to thrive. ChildFund Ireland was registered in Ireland as an autonomous Irish Non-Governmental Organisation in 1991 and became operational in 1996.

We are part of the international ChildFund Alliance which has been a major player in the developing world for over 70 years and currently works in 56 countries supporting more than 15 million people. Whilst we in ChildFund Ireland concentrate our efforts on children in great need in 12 of these countries (Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, Uganda, Zambia, Brazil, Guatemala, Mexico, India, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Vietnam), we aim to support emergency responses wherever ChildFund is present.
