ChildFund was represented at the Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict which was held in London in June.  The summit provided an opportunity for Government Ministers, civil society (including NGOs such as ChildFund), media and survivors of conflicts across the globe to work together for a future without rape & gender violence in conflict.  Also present were the then Minister for Trade and Development, Joe Costello T.D.,  former President Mary Robinson and Angelina Jolie, Special Envoy for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, who was one of the co-chairs  of the event.

122 Delegations including Ireland endorsed the Statement of Action which declares “that rape and sexual violence is not an inevitable consequence of war or lesser crime”, that signatories are committed to supporting survivors and “to holding accountable those who perpetrate or are otherwise responsible for these crimes”.
