The week-long Paris summit was seen by many observers as perhaps the most important meeting of its kind ever, and perhaps the last opportunity to meaningfully tackle climate change before its effects become irreversible. In what has been described as a huge successful for international diplomacy, an agreement was reached on the highly sensitive area of emissions. Some 195 countries have signed up to a deal that seeks to prohibit global temperatures from exceeding a ceiling of 2 degree Celsius. Further, World Leaders have agreed to work towards finding mechanisms to reduce global temperatures to around the 1.5 degree Celsius mark.
ChildFund Ireland hugely welcomes the historic Cop21 agreement and hopes that World Leaders, current and future will stand over the agreement to ensure it becomes a reality. There is no choice in the matter.”
