ChildFund Ireland consults on Ireland’s new Policy for International Development.

Last year ChildFund Ireland was pleased to be part of the consultation process in drafting Ireland’s updated Policy for International Development – One World, One Future, which has now been published.

Focusing on the plight of vulnerable children around the world, our submissions as part of several coalitions of Irish NGOs, highlighted areas where the need was greatest and outlined ideas as to how Irish Aid could have the most positive and long-lasting impact.

Child-protection, early childhood development, gender-based violence and HIV were areas of particular concern to us, and we were pleased to see a commitment to address these issues included within the broader policy.

3 central goals

The new policy states that the Irish Aid programme will be planned around the three central goals of:

  1. Reducing hunger and building resilience
  2. Supporting inclusive and sustainable economic growth
  3. Promoting better governance, human rights and accountability

ChildFund Ireland has a long history of working with Irish Aid to deliver projects that make a lasting difference for vulnerable children around the world. While we are disappointed that children’s issues do not get the focus we feel they deserve, we look forward to continuing to work under the new framework, to ensure that every euro is spent as effectively as possible.
